March 2017 was the warmest March ever recorded here. Temperatures were 2.0°C above the average. Rainfall was above average and no snow or frost was recorded. This was the first March that the minimum temperature was above freezing. Winds were stronger than average. The highest temperature in the month was 18.3°C at 17:24 on the 30th, the highest temperature since 20.3°C was recorded on September 28th 2016. The lowest temperature was 0.5°C at 02:12 on the 2nd. The trend for above average temperatures continued into September 2016 which was the hottest so far recorded here. The month was also drier than usual with lighter winds. The temperature at 16:16 on the 13th reached 28.4°C, beating the previous September best of 27.8°C set on September 30th 2011. This was also the second highest temperature of 2016, beaten only by the 30.1°C recorded on July 19th. The average temperature for the month was 15.3°C, 1.8°C above the mean. April 2016 was a cold month – only April of 2012 being colder. Winds and rainfall were slightly below average and the only snow that fell was towards the end of the month when cold Arctic air brought snow and hail showers, which were quick to disappear. The average temperature in the month was 6.7°C, 0.2°C higher than in 2012 and 1.7°C below the mean. The maximum temperature was 15.3°C at 15:36 on the 13th. As with August, September was another average month, although it was the coolest September so far recorded here. Winds were light and rainfall was below average. The maximum temperature in the month was 20.4°C recorded at 15:45 on the 10th. The lowest temperature was 4.8°C at 06:53 on the 26th, with the mean temperature being 12.0°C.
